Bumgarner Goes the Distance, Crawford Drives in Five, Giants Extend Streak

Sunday's baseball game turned heavyweight prizefighter match between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Texas Rangers, more specifically between Jose Bautista and Rougned Odor, was a doozy, to say the least. It was like a car crash; you don't want to look at it, but you can't help but look away.

It was bad for baseball.

On the two-day anniversary of the Canada versus America, I mean Toronto versus Texas, brawl, Madison Bumgarner had some choice words for Wil Myers after striking him out, and the benches cleared. Somewhere in the baseball world, Commissioner Rob Manfred held his breath.

Luckily for the Commish, the only damage done during the altercation was the freshly dragged infield dirt, which the San Diego and San Francisco bullpens so carelessly jogged over while the grounds crew was giving the field some maintenance.

Talk means nothing unless it can be backed up, and Big Country Bumgarner picked up right where he left off in his last start against the Padres to go the distance, striking out eleven over nine innings while only allowing one run to lead the Giants to a 5-1 win. Bumgarner's start helped extend San Francisco's winnings streak to six games. The San Francisco ace was nothing short of excellent on the mound, mowing down Padre after Padre with control of all his pitches.

On the offensive side of the ball, Brandon Crawford was an RBI machine, driving in all of San Francisco's five runs via a three-run home run, a sacrifice fly, and a double. Hunter Pence had a three-hit day of his own.

Going back to Matt Cain's last start against the Toronto Blue Jays, the Giants' starting rotation has now had seven straight consecutive quality starts.
