The Giants and left-handed reliever Alex Torres have agreed to a minor-league deal, via Michael Mayer of Metsmerized Online.
Torres was acquired by the Mets from the Padres in Spring Training and appeared in 39 games for the Mets in 2015. The 28-year-old pitched 34.1 innings for New York with a WAR of -0.6, striking out 9.17 per nine innings, but also walking 6.82 per nine innings. Left-handed batters found success against Torres, hitting .268/.406/.393 in 69 plate appearances.
On August 7th, the Mets designated Torres for assignment to make room for Eric O'Flaherty. Torres signed a minor-league contract with the Braves this past offseason but didn't make the club after a spring where he had a 4.50 ERA with seven strikeouts and five walks.
Ahead of Torres in San Francisco's bullpen depth chart are left-handers Javier Lopez and Josh Osich, as well as prospect Ty Blach, who is a part of the Giants' 40-man roster. San Fransisco is hoping that he can return to his 2013 form, in which he had a 1.71 ERA over 58 innings while striking out 9.62 per nine innings while only walking 3.10 per nine innings.
